Prior to carrying out work at height careful consideration should be given to ensure that the safest possible solution is chosen. A hierarchy of measures exist to assist in this process and users should ensure that they select an option as high in the hierarchy as possible. By doing so the potential risk will be minimised. At the top of the hierarchy and the safest option is AVOIDANCE, wherever possible avoid unnecessary work at height, this is followed by WORK RESTRAINT, then WORK POSITIONING and finally FALL ARREST.
