In November, a member of our team here at Total Protection (UK) received a newsletter from the British Safety Council. It had some interesting points that we found interesting and worth sharing with you.
Costs of Health and Safety failure
Statistics released by HSE show that in 2014/15 the costs of workplace injury and illness was £14.1bn, a cost that falls on the state, individuals and businesses. Breaking this down, £9.3bn was a result of illness, equivalent to a cost of £17,600 per case; and £4.8bn due to injury. This is equivalent to £1.6m per fatal injury and £7,400 cost per non-fatal injury. Other statistics showed that for GB in 2015/16, 144 workers were killed at work, 1.3 million working people are suffering from a work-related illness and 2,515 mesothelioma deaths due to past asbestos exposures (2014).
Toilets at work
Evidence is clear that ready access to workplace toilets save lives, increases productivity and grows economies. ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder highlights the link between access to clean toilets – something many take for granted but millions live without – and improved livelihoods and development, in his video message for World Toilet Day 2016 on 19 November.
