Welcome to the March newsletter. In this edition, we’re looking closely at the HSE’s Health & Safety Statistics 2015/2016, updating you with the latest news from BW Technologies and we’ve also got some company news we’re pleased to share with you.
Towards the back end of last year, HSE recently released the Health & Safety at work 2015/16 statistics, highlighting some concerning findings from last year.
HSE have provided some key figures below:
- 1.3 million working people suffering from a work-related illness
- 2,515 mesothelioma deaths due to past asbestos exposures (2014)
- 144 workers killed at work
- 72,702 other injuries to employees reported under RIDDOR
- 621,000 injuries occurred at work, according to the Labour Force Survey
- 30.4 million working days lost due to work-related illness and workplace injury
- £14.1 billion estimated cost of injuries and ill health from current working conditions (2014/15)
As you can see, there were over 2,000 deaths from exposure to asbestos in previous work. For a long time, asbestos was disregarded as a threat to life. However as awareness has grown over the years, understanding of asbestos and the effect it can have on later life has produced frightening results.
It is now vital that exposure to asbestos is prevented at all times and having the correct RPE is so important in modern day work.
Scott Safety launch the AVIVA range
The new AVIVA half mask is the next step forward in half mask technology from Scott Safety. Innovative design elements such as a reflex face seal, an easy-to-use leak check mechanism and goggle ‘pinch’ have been integrated into the AVIVA half mask, with user comfort and protection in mind. A wide range of filter options makes AVIVA suitable for use in a variety of applications.
Giving you what you want
We know there is nothing worse than receiving endless emails relating to products that you have no interest in. To prevent this from happening, over the past month we have been analysing all the data we have here at Total Protection (UK) to provide you with the information you want to read.
You’ll be hearing less from us – but don’t worry we’re still here. We don’t want to bore you, so instead we’ll be sending you the information and offers which best benefit you.
Latest news from BW Technologies
As many of you will know, BW Technologies have announced that all Microclip XL’s and Microclip X3’s purchased before October 2016 now require an upgrade. This is something we can do for you here at Total Protection (UK), free of charge.
However due to the issues BW have had with the manufacturing of some monitors, there has been a delay in the production line. This in turn has caused a delay in the delivery of any orders placed.
Unfortunately, we still don’t know when we will receive our Microclip monitors. As soon as we do, we’ll let you know.
Don’t forget about Fulbourn!
Last month we opened Fulbourn Training in Cambridgeshire and we’re already seeing great results from the courses we’ve run. The modern training centre is perfect for customer located in and around the A14 and M11 and offers high class training to all delegates. To book your course, check our course calendar here.
We’d like to congratulate Scott Holden who as of February has been a member of the Total Protection (UK) team for three years.
